Afghan Shami Kebab Recipe

Afghani Kebabs are quite different than our traditional Shami kebabs. They are relatively less spicy. Moreover, Afghans mostly use lamb meat in preparing their kebabs but you can make these with beef also. Enjoy them with chutney and raita!

Afghan Shami Kebab Recipe With Ingredients and Directions:

  • Lamb/ beef boneless ½ Kg
  • Onion medium 1  Pc
  • Garlic cloves 2 Pcs
  • Potatoes boiled 2 Pcs
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper 1 Tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 Tsp
  • Bread crumbs 4 Tbsp
  • Eggs 1-2 as required for binding
  • Oil as needed


  • Take a pan and saute some onion in it
  • Then add the meat along with garlic cloves and salt and fry for a few minutes
  • Also add approximately 3 cups of water and cook on low flame until the meat becomes tender and the water dries up
  • Cool the mixture down and grind it
  • Add the mashed potatoes in the minced meat along with bread crumbs, salt, eggs and black pepper while mixing the mixture with your right hand
  • Make long shaped kebabs out of the mixture
  • Take a frying pan and shallow fry them
  • Serve hot along with chutney and enjoy the lightness of delicious Afghani Kebabs
