Baklava Puff Pastry Recipe

Many people don’t even know that they can now prepare the baklava puff pastry at home now. Try this simple recipe and you won’t need to go to the bakery anymore!

Baklava Puff Pastry Recipe With Ingredients and Directions:

Ingredients for Puff Pastry:

  • Vanaspati Ghee 400 Gms
  • Water 200 Ml
  • Egg 1 (Optional)
  • Oil 4 Tbsp
  • Salt 1 Tsp
  • Sugar Powdered 2 Tbsp
  • All-purpose flour 500 Gms
  • Water if required

Ingredients for Baklava:

  • Sugar syrup
  • Sugar 2 Cups
  • Water 1 Cup
  • Cloves 3-4 Pcs
  • Rose water 1 Tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 Tsp
  • Pistachio Crushed ½ Cup
  • Almonds Crushed ½ Cup
  • Walnuts Crushed ½ Cup
  • Cinnamon powder ¼ Tsp
  • Brown sugar 1 Tbsp
  • Nutmeg powder ¼ Tsp
  • Puff pastry as required
  • Egg

Directions to Prepare Puff Pastry:

  • Take a wok and add ghee in it, let it melt at room temperature
  • Now pour chilled water with ice cubes in a bowl and add the ghee in it, leave it until the ghee becomes solid and refrigerate for 6 hours
  • Now add water, salt, egg and oil with sugar in a jug and whisk thoroughly
  • Next, take a bowl and and make a well with the all-purpose flour, then slowly add the egg water and knead until smooth dough is formed, let it settle for 20 minutes
  • Take out the solid excess ghee out of the water
  • Now in a square pan, put the butter paper and set a block
  • Set butter paper on top and flatten the ghee with help of a kitchen hammer then freeze ghee block for 20 minutes
  • Now sprinkle generous amount of flour on the prepared dough and roll out round shapes with a rolling pin
  • Place the solid ghee block in the centre of the dough and wrap the four sides
  • Then dust with dry flour and roll the shapes out in rectangular forms with the help of rolling pin, fold one third into the middle and then the other third on top, fold and overlap the remaining sides,cover and freeze it for 20 minutes.
  • Repeat the wrapping and overlapping process while covering and freezing for 20 minutes and the puff pastry will be ready to use
  • Follow the same pastry method if you use butter
  • Sprinkle quite a generous amount of flour while rolling or overlapping the pastry
  • Egg is optional in puff pastry recipes
  • Put the ghee in cold water or refrigerate it until it becomes solid

Directions to Prepare Baklava:

  • Preheat the oven at 180 degrees C
  • Take a pot and cook sugar with water and cloves to form a thick syrup
  • Then turn off the stove and mix rose water and lemon juice in the syrup, set the mixture aside
  • Mix pistachio, almonds, walnuts, brown sugar, cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder in a bowl
  • Roll out the puff pastry, egg wash and add the dry fruit mixture in it
  • Then press and fold it and cut the pastries with the help of cutter
  • Place the baklava on a baking dish and bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown
  • Immediately pour the sugar syrup after taking the pastries out of the oven
  • Garnish with dry fruits and serve
