Mongolian Beef Recipe

Mongolian Beef is known as known as the food for fighters! The nutrition in this ancient delicacy was very important for the Mongols to keep going through the daily drudgery. The brown hoisin sauce in this dish is what makes it stand out from other meats cooked in gravies.

Ingredients for Beef

  • Beef Julienne ½ kg (Undercut only)
  • Corn Flour 3-4 Tbsp
  • Oil 1/2 Cup
  • Salt ½ Tsp
  • Dried Red Chilies OR Red Button Chillies 3-4
  • Oil 2-3 Tbsp
  • Dark Soya Sauce 2 Tbsp
  • Ginger chopped 1 Tsp
  • Hoisin Sauce 2-3 Tbsp
  • Brown Sugar 2 Tsp
  • Salt to taste or 1 Tsp
  • Water ¼ cup
  • Green Onion (White part chopped) 2 tbsp
  • Green Onions Green part chopped 3 tbsp
  • Slurry (Water ¼ Cup + 1 Tbsp Corn Flour)
  • Sesame Seeds for Garnishing
  • Black Pepper ¼ Tsp or to taste

Ingredients for Hoisin Sauce

  • Soya Sauce 4 Tbsp
  • Peanut Butter 2 Tbsp
  • Honey 1 Tbsp.
  • Rice vinegar 2 Tsp
  • Garlic paste 1 Tsp
  • Sesame oil 2 Tsp
  • Hot sauce 1 ½ Tsp
  • Black pepper powder ¼ Tsp or to taste

Directions for Mongolian Beef

  • Marinate the beef in corn flour and salt and leave it for about half an hour
  • Meanwhile, prepare hoisin sauce by whisking all the ingredients together
  • Later, heat oil in a pan and stir fry the beef and set it aside
  • Heat another batch of oil and fry the chopped ginger, white part of spring onion and dried chillies for about 2 minutes
  • Add water to the ingredients along with the hoisin sauce, soya sauce and brown sugar in the last
  • Once the mixture gets consistent, add the slurry while stir cooking until it thickens
  • Now add the beef and mix it properly in the gravy
  • Finally, add the green part of spring onion while sprinkling some sesame seeds
  • Serve hot alongside plain rice or glass noodles
  • You may store the hoisin sauce for later use till a week
