Ingredients for Kunna:

  • Ghee/oil ½ Cup
  • Mutton ½ Kg
  • Onion medium (sliced) 1 Pc
  • Ginger garlic paste 1 Tbsp
  • Red chili powder ½ Tbsp
  • Deghi lal mirch ½ Tsp
  • Turmeric powder ¼ Tsp
  • Coriander powder ½ Tsp
  • Cumin seeds ½ Tsp
  • Salt 1½ Tsp
  • Water ½ Ltr
  • Yogurt ¼ Cup
  • Flour ½ or 1 Tbsp
  • Kunna special spices
  • Water 1 Cup
  • Ginger as required (julienne)

Ingredients for Kunna Special Spices:

  • Caraway seeds (roasted and crushed) 1 Tsp
  • Whole spice powder ½ Tsp
  • Star anise powder 1 Pinch
  • Nutmeg 1 Pinch
  • Green cardamom powder 1 Pinch
  • Mace powder 1 Pinch

Directions for Mutton Kunna:

  • Take a handi and heat the ghee in it
  • Add the meat, ginger-garlic paste, onion, red chili powder, deghi laal mirch, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin seeds, salt and water
  • Mix the ingredients and cover and cook on medium low flame for about an hour or until the meat is tender and the oil separates
  • Now take a small bowl and add roasted and crushed caraway seeds with whole spice powder, star anise powder, nutmeg powder, mace powder and green cardamom powder, the Kunna spices are ready
  • Next add the yogurt and cook on high flame for 2-3 minutes
  • Then dissolve the flour in water and add it in the handi while mixing properly
  • Add another cup of water and give the mixture a good mixing
  • Add the kunna spice along with julienne ginger and mix
  • Cover and simmer for 6-8 minutes until the oil surfaces
  • Garnish with julienne ginger and the Kunna is ready to be served
