French Onion Soup


Overview:

 A rich and savory soup with caramelized onions and a topping of melted cheese and bread. 

Origin:

 France 

Ingredients:

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Baguette slices
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated 
How to Make It:
  1. Melt butter in a pot and cook onions until caramelized.
  2. Add wine and cook until reduced.
  3. Pour in beef broth and thyme, simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Ladle soup into bowls, top with baguette slices and cheese.
  5. Broil until cheese is melted and bubbly, then serve.
