Pho


Overview: 

A fragrant Vietnamese soup made with broth, rice noodles, and various herbs, typically served with beef or chicken. 

Origin: 

Vietnam 

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef or chicken, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 8 oz rice noodles
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2-inch piece of ginger, sliced
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • Fresh basil, cilantro, lime, and bean sprouts for garnish 
How to Make It:
  1. Toast cinnamon, star anise, garlic, and ginger in a pot until fragrant.
  2. Add broth and bring to a simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Cook rice noodles according to package instructions.
  4. Strain the broth, then add thinly sliced beef or chicken to the hot broth to cook.
  5. Serve the broth over noodles, garnished with fresh herbs, lime, and bean sprouts.
